"Extremely fun stuff. If Ivan Reitman's movie "Twins" was about creating a band instead of a person, the fathers would easily have been equal parts Ronnie James Dio, Kansas, Dream Theater, Homer (not Simpson), Wagner, Beethoven and Mozart. The throwaway malformed, obnoxious and forgettable leftovers, instead of being Danny DeVito, would be Yngwie Malmsteen. The superior brother, instead of being Governor Arnold, would be Symphony X. Lots of chunky riffage to be had from these guys. Lightning-fast on the fretboard, powerful vocals and the occasional mythology lesson." less

"Great stuff. Often haunting in their styling, Riverside can really write some gripping tunes. My first exposure to them was "Loose Heart" from the album 'Out of Myself', and I was instantly drawn in by the building tension of the song. They haven't failed me yet and I don't expect them to. A must-have band." less

"Another of the side-project prog bands, Frost is one of the more cohesive and successful in their output. Has an almost pop sensibility at times, but without falling to convention. Altogether, nothing really new. But at the same time, what they do create is quite appealing, ambitious and exciting." less

"Almost always pleased with anything Patton is involved with. Yeah, I'm one of those jerks. There is such a maturity in the composition of the songs on this album, but a raw and occasionally urgent presentation. I appreciate when a good band can write tight songs and feel an album is complete without having to fill all 80 minutes." less

"This is my all-time favorite TFK album. Sure, there is plenty to gain from any of the others, but this one hits me the best. Some folks are split between the structure and the trademark TFK noodling. This has more of the former and a bit less of the latter, even with Disc 1 being mostly one song clocking in at just under an hour. A proggy must-have." less

"Another great pick from 2007. While I'll admit that POS can sometimes be a little obvious and overly-insistent in their lyrics, they still make some good points.
The music here is, at times, a new direction for them and I like it. All said, this album is very appealing with some fantastic compositions. Aside from a slight sense of feeling like you're being hammered over the head a bit too often with the point, 'Scarsick' is a kickass addition in their catalog." less
"Stunning. An all-acoustic live album ..." more
"Stunning. An all-acoustic live album that connects various unconnected songs from their concept albums into something else entirely new. Songs originally heavy and harsh on the studio release are reworked and, some, completely rewritten, to weave together a new dimension of POS. Gildenlow and the entire band know exactly how to wrench what they need from a song to provide the greatest impact. '12:5' is one that should be in almost every collection." less

"Most definitely one of my favorite releases of 2007. Fun, heavy, highly humorous and extremely well presented. Devin Townsend is a hard-working madman who always delivers. Who couldn't enjoy a metal album about an all-powerful dimensional being who holds Earth hostage for the greatest cup of coffee it can produce?" less
"My introduction to the "band". Since ..." more
"My introduction to the "band". Since it's mostly one guy, I use the word "band" loosely.
I'd heard this a while back and picked it up, then set it to the side for a time (then lost it), forgetting what a fine batch of work had been set down here. Since getting back into it, I've picked up the rest, some through eMu, and have really enjoyed the sometimes-atmospheric, sometimes-head-on approach of DST. This is as good an album as any to start with." less

"Really a refreshing sound amid the typically overdone, overwrought denizens of modern prog. Clean and crisp in every note, and the singer's clear voice shines through. Their previous albums are nothing like this at all. They were much like prog metal grandaddies, Watchtower, up until this album. This, and the more recent, 'Paramount', are both spectacular. Sieges Even stands above the fray." less
