Piano Jazz Discoveries on eMusic by haremscarem

"Before discovering eMusic I was already a very keen CD collector - mainly Jazz, but with a fairly complete collection of specific Classical composers (Shostakovich, Mahler, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Satie, Lutoslawski and Gorecki). My favourite jazz pianists were Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonious, Jarrett, Tyner, Barron, Petrucciani, Powell and to a lesser extent, Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson. eMusic has plenty by these artists. But eMusic has opened up a new world, that I may never had known except by experiment with the eMusic catalog. My preferences lie with pianists who are more sparing in the quantity of notes played, who are lyrical, who swing, and show some tendency to inject some classical styling, or specific cultural influences, into their palette. Discoveries include:-
Aaron Goldberg (Worlds)
Anat Fort (A Long Stay)
Andrew Hill in a Trio, or solo (Strange Serenade)
Geri Allen (Etudes, Some Aspects of Water, Zodiac Suite revisited}
Jacques Loussier (plays Debussy, Chopin -- why not Satie?)
Jessica Williams (Live at Joshi's, More for Monk, A Song that I Heard)
John Hicks (A Billy Strayhorn Songbook)
John Taylor (Phases, Whirlpool, Angel of the Presence)
Ludovici Einaudi (I Giorni, Le Onde)
Lyle Mays (Later that Evening, Wichita)
Mal Waldron (Blues for Lady Day, Moods, No More Tears, Impressions)
Marcin Wasilewski (Lullaby for Rosemary, Habanera)
Paul Bley (Open Too Long, Nothing to Declare, Solo in Mondsee, Homage to Carla Bley)
Serge Forte (Thanks for All, La Vie en Bleu)
Srefano Bollani (Piano Solo, Les Fleurs & Bleues)
Tord Gustavsen (The Ground, Changing Places, Humans & Places, Aire & Angels)
Uri Caine (Live at the Village Vanguard)
Vassilis Tsabropoulos (The Triangle, Chants Hymns & Dances -- why not Achirana & Akroasis?)
Bernado Sassetti (Ascent, Indigo, Nocturno, Aquipelago)
Enrico Pieranunzi ( everything)
Lynne Arriale (Arise, Melody)

Unfortunately there is not much by Bobo Stenson, Esbjorn Stensson Misha Alperin or Brad Mehldau.

Additionally some marvellous additions to my Petrucciani collection (Live in Copenhagen with NHOP and Conference De Presse with Eddy Louiss)are new discoveries for me. I can now add Julia Hulsmann and Marilyn Crispell. I am a great ECM fan.
