just a schoolteacher looking to fill holes in my music collection. I obviously lean toward the music of my high school and college days, late 70's and early 80's, but lately I've been stretching my music boundries.
"Way back in the day, KROQ was an alternative station where the jocks seemed to play whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. Way before it was a spawning ground for MTV personalities, it was the place to hear different music, where an old Led Zeppelin track could lead into Ian Dury. Here's songs that I've found that have seared their way into my memory from the KROQ of old. Long live the Roq of the 80's..."
""The Timewarp" always sounded great blasting from the summertime car windows, and "Sweet Transvestite" was a holdover from the earlier glam rock days when KROQ was playing a different part of the underground then rival KMET. I was surprised to see this one turn up here." less
""Labour of Lust" was a great album, and since Yep Roc just redid "Jesus of Cool", maybe they'll do the deluxe treatment of "LOL" as well. Until then, "Cruel to be Kind" was the big hit, but "Cracking Up" was the KROQ choice." less
"I way back when, with the picture sleeve and everything. I think it came with the "Do It Yourself" LP, but I'm not sure. Somehow, it ended up on the floor of my dad's car, where he stepped on it. Still a good song though." less
"Sparks was always a favorite on KROQ. The title track, "Eaten by the Monster of Love," "Angst in My Pants" and "Moustache" were all played regularly." less
""I Love Rock and Roll" made her a superstar, but "Bad Reputation" established that she had the talent to be a superstar, and that she was the guts of the Runaways." less
""Daddy's Money" and "Kinko the Clown" were both early KROQ favorites, especially the morning show with the "Insane Daryll Wayne" (a nice man that I worked with briefly at KOTR). "Dead Puppies" also showed up alot on Dr. Demento." less
