"Perhaps my favorite style in all of Western concert music is music which sounds transitional between the refined Classical style of the 18th century and the emotional Romantic style of the 19th century. Beethoven's early and middle-period works exemplify this era at its best, but there are plenty of other fine examples. Early music of this type was revolutionary in that it took risks by dipping into romantic ideas; later works were conservative, romantics who had an affinity with the earlier style. This list was created primarily to example works rather than specific recordings."
