"1994 - Song for Cleomenes was one of my first loves with the Mtn Goats. A mostly high energy early recording of John D. Back-up vocals provided by The Bright Mountain Choir, I believe." less

"1994 - going to georgia, bad priestess, grendel's mother, orange balls - oh, a necessary early album. probably more suitable for the converted." less

"1999 - Includes the full releases of Transmissions to Horace, Songs for Peter Hughes, maybe others...a lot of good early stuff on this one. No, I Can't is a favorite. Now I have everything I need." less

"1997 - rife with early favorites for me: Twin Human Highway Flares, Minnesota, Masher, Evening in Stalingrad. What do I know? These were just songs that got me hooked initially.

"2002 - sounding less lo-fi. Pure Gold, Raja Vocative, Orange Ball of Peace, Standard Bitter Love Son...." less

"2002 - this sounds even less lo-fi to me than Ghana. Going to Queens is a well known little number. I really like the whole thing. Again, more lovely touches by the Bright Mountain Choir." less

"1995 - more of the lo-fi sound. CUBS IN FIVE. to be honest, I haven't absorbed the rest of the album." less

"2000 - mmmhhmm, I love this CD. Damn...." more

"2000 - mmmhhmm, I love this CD. Damn. Like a lot. More lo-fi sounding than Sweden, imho. Favorites include Jaipur, Elijah, The Coroner's Gambit, Baboon, Family Happiness, Onions, Shadow Song, There Will be No Divorce, Insurance Fraud #2...everything else." less

"2002 - OK, if you're starting off, this is not a bad place to start. It's got a pretty stripped down, lo-fi sound. The songs are amazing. The characters will stick with you forever and ever. I swear." less

"2006 - a really gentle and often melancholy offering. some nice piano on this one." less

"2004 - Supposedly every song is inspi..." more

"2004 - Supposedly every song is inspired by a true life person from John D's time in the Northwest - mostly junkies, or so the story goes. One of the first albums with the full-band in-studio feel. I have a friend that believes this is the album everyone should be hear first." less

"2002 - leaving the lo-fi sound behind..." more

"2002 - leaving the lo-fi sound behind. This album is more or less dedicated to the Alpha Couple, even though only one Alpha songs is titled as such. More favorites: See America Right, No Children, Old College Try, Oceanographer's Choice, International Small Arms Traffic Blues, Southwood Plantation Blues...it's all good, imho." less

"2008 - Songs great from start to fini..." more

"2008 - Songs great from start to finish. Seek out the comic strip of song meanings John D worked with an artist on. Awesome insight into an amazing writer." less

"2005 - This album is widely seen as a..." more

"2005 - This album is widely seen as a departure lyrically, or so I've gathered. It was written shortly after the death of John D's abusive step-father, and it relives a lot of his time with him. It's seen as a departure because it's so much more personal than the character-driven songs of previous albums. To me it sounds like the angst of youth combined with the raw pain of abuse." less
