New album pages

Ok, I'm digging the new layout of the album pages. Buried at the bottom is a section called "Dig Deeper on the net," which is collapsed by default. If you click the "+," then you see all the new content: YouTube videos, flckr pics, and a Wikipedia entry.

Interestingly, the first page I tried this for was the new Bodies of Water (http://www.emusic.com/album/Bodies-Of-Water-A-Certain-Feeling-MP3-Download/11251183.html). Looks like the Wiki entry must be generated automatically, with comical results: "A body of water is any significant accumulation of water, usually covering the Earth or another planet..."

Finally good album artwork!!!!

Love the user reviews down the left gutter.

As I mentioned in another thread my only complaint is we need either volume control or maximized volume by default on the inline player. (It's a scientific fact that if something is quieter it is perceived as sounding worse, all other things being equal.) I love previewing in the page but as of now I don't do it because the sound really suffers.

Yes, I just noticed that too! When you click the album art, you get the option to "download hi-res." The images (at least the one I downloaded) are 1400x1400, which is actually sort of unnecessarily large--but I'm not complaining!

Very nice, with something like this you can really appreciate the hi-res.

As of now the downloader still just grabs the 155x155 artwork. I hope they switch that to the 600x600.

Yeah, looking at several other album pages (that Bodies of Water album is pretty great, by the way...I'm going to see them here in DC in a few weeks) the "Dig Deeper" sections have got to be auto-generated... while definitely good intentioned, be prepared to find a lot of unrelated crap. Unfortunately, some band names (have you ever done a search for the band The Music?) are just going to cause problems with that (the same problem one finds when using any search method on, say, Google or whatnot). We're still left with a little hunting-n-pecking, but this new function is definitely a good starting point!

re the dig deeper "feature"
the flickr portion might very well be a violation of the flickr api tos.
for one thing, there is no way to click through to the actual flickr page, for another thing, many of the images are all rights reserved.
arguments can and will be made that it's possibly legal, but it's possibly not ethical....
i suggest that emusic looks into this before the flickr community notices and gets up in arms about it.

One would hope that eMusic discussed this with flickr management beforehand. Not to do so would be boneheaded.

all i know is that i'm seeing all rights reserved images, as well as no direct link to the individual images as hosted on flickr (both no-no's).

Even if I need some time to be accustomed to the new album pages, they look nice. My lone complaint is where are gone the users lists?

Another thing is it looks like not all the artists have a dig deeper options, for example Vincent Venet's album doesn't have it even if he has videos on You Tube.

Edit:
I was certainly drunk because now Vincent Venet's album has a dig deeper option.

It's strange for flickr I only got the thumbnails, and when I want to see the high-resolution image it sends me to the flickr site. Where do you get all rights reserved images (and with which albums)?

I finally found an album that have users playlists.
But the display is cut for the last two playlists (with Firefox I don't see the playlists but perhaps it's because I'm not logged).

I dunno.... Think there is too much scrolling required for the new album pages and will have to agree that the auto generated content can be crap in general...

They could remove the Flickr integration and it wouldn't bother me a bit.
Of all the new additions that one is the least interesting to me anyway.
Unlike the new cover art which is amazingly awesome!

I already look up my new emu discoveries on Wikipedia and YouTube and Google .... and often find NADA because they're just too darn obscure. I think it might be a badge of honour amongst the hard core to have download lists full of folks you simply cannot "dig deeper" into. ;-)

Love the new hi-res album art!
