Class Actress, Journal of Ardency
"Do you know how much I truly obsess on every word you say?," Elizabeth Harper coolly confesses on "Someone Real," the closing track of Class Actress's debut EP. As the band's name implies, there's a touch of the high school drama club geek in Harper's songs, all hormonal angst (see the song "Adolescent Heart") and bold displays of love, seemingly the unrequited kind. But despite all of the sloppy emotions, Class Actress manages to maintain a cool-kid level of remove, probably because those gushing proclamations are delivered while dancing — it's hard to sound all that melodramatic over smooth electropop beats. With an opening slot for buzz band Yeasayer and their profile continuing to rise, Class Actress seems poised to be Most Likely To Succeed.
