Horn-Rock: 1968-1974
The notion of combining a horn section with a rock band exploded in a very specific period of time (late 60′s- early 70s) and place (Chicago/Detroit) and very quickly splintered into blustery blues, psychedelic rock, R&B, funk, and fusion. It was often an over the top and utterly compelling genre; even the brassy jazz big bands got into the game by covering the big rock hits of the time. The most successful bands found their permanent way into the cultural mainstream (Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears), but many of the rest quickly exploded onto the scene and then just as quickly receded into the record bins. Not dissimilar to the then-reigning Nixon administration.
