By Andrew Parks, eMusic ContributorUnabashedly '80s in every way, Hugo Manuel's debut Chad Valley album clears up the cloudiness of his past couple EPs for a pop sheen that's so bright it could leave you blind. And then there's the guest list, which is stacked with such indie staples as Twin Shadow, Glasser and El Perro Del Mar, rounding out the Jonquil frontman's prismatic hooks with honeyed harmonies and melancholic melodies.
"There came a point where there was so much music like mine that was shoddily produced," Manuel explains in a press release. "It contradicted the records being cited – '80s pop albums that are meticulously produced, really big-sounding and precise. There’s no room for hiss and noise on those records."
Case in point: "My Girl," a duet with Jack Goldstein that'd crack the Top 40 charts in half if the right pop star got their hands on it...
