M83 Shares a New Song From the ‘Divergent’ Soundtrack

M83, bringing the melodrama

M83, bringing the melodrama

By Andrew Parks, Contributor

A little less than a year after he unveiled the score to Oblivion — a Tom Cruise movie that's got nothing on the Mission Impossible series, or Risky Business for that matter — M83 has channeled all the melodrama he can muster for a selection from the Divergent soundtrack. Available to stream below, "I Need You" kinda reminds us of the new Coldplay single, at least in terms of how it Auto-Tunes its way to the bottom of your heart. Other than that, it's a little more hopeful, aimed straight at the heavens via laser-guided synth lines and stray sax parts... more »

By Andrew Parks, Contributor

Well it's here — the melodramatic video for the M83-produced "Shot At the Night," a collaboration The Killers first mentioned in August, when guitarist Dave Keuning admitted "it's something we finally agreed with our label on" and added "there's a 65-percent chance we’ll work with him again."

For now, casual fans and Killers completists can look forward to Direct Hits, a palette-cleansing best-of compilation that hits shops on November 11th and includes two new tracks ("Shot At the Night" and the Stuart Price track "Just Another Girl"). Have a look and a listen below... more »

Stream Two New Songs From M83′s ‘Oblivion’ Soundtrack

Considering how cinematic Anthony Gonzalez's own music is, it's certainly not a surprise to hear that the M83 frontman recently worked on the score for Tom Cruise's next film, Oblivion.

"I'm always trying to push myself and I try to do it with my studio albums, and now this is a new adventure," Gonzalez told The Playlist last June, "so I'm going to push myself even harder, and try to surprise people and move people with my music. My vision is really to have a combination of very electronic moments, very M83, and sometimes merge into something more soundtrack-y, but my kind of soundtracks."

Due out April 9th through Back Lot Records, the Oblivion soundtrack can be sampled below, as we unveil two new tracks, including a collaboration with Norwegian singer Susanne Sundfør that can be downloaded here... more »

M83's "Wait" video

M83's "Wait" video

By Andrew Parks, Contributor

"I love composing music and making music with pictures in my head," says M83's main member, Anthony Gonzalez. "Cinema is the biggest influence for me — even bigger than music itself."

That much is clear in the Hurry Up, We're Dreaming trilogy that Gonzalez has rolled out over the past year, culminating in today's "Wait" clip. "We felt it was important to re-connect with a meaningful subject that would have an echo in today's world," explains directors Fleur & Manu. "The promise of a new cycle, seen through the kid's eyes."

Have a look back through the duo's high concept lens below... more »
