While we usually prefer to keep industry talk off 17 Dots, the underground metal scene was dealt a serious blow on Monday as Pat Egan — the longtime Director of Retail Sales at Relapse Records — passed away from pneumonia complications. The label released a 20-track compilation of Egan's favorite artists in his honor yesterday. Entitled Patlapse, it includes everyone from heavy-hitters like Mastodon, the Dillinger Escape Plan and Baroness to fringe favorites like Death, Exhumed and Brutal Truth. All of the artists involved have waived their royalty fees for the set, ensuring that 100-percent of the proceeds from the digital LP go directly towards the college fund of Egan's young daughter Katie.
