Rare Oasis, Radiohead Demo Tapes Fetch Thousands at UK Auction
The Radiohead tape you will never, ever own
In a development that all but proves every day is Cassette Store Day, Omega Auctions managed to move a couple rare indie rock demos over the weekend for more than £1,000 each. Clearing the block at around £2,000 was a one-of-a-kind tape from On a Friday, a pre-Radiohead project performing six otherwise unreleased songs: "Fragile Friend," "Girl (In the Purple Dress)," "Everybody Knows," "Mountains (On the Move)," "Lemming Trail" and "Lock The Door."
"It [came] directly from an old friend of the band who was at school with them at Abingdon School," auctioneer Paul Fairweather told the NME. "We have copies of his school yearbook from 85/86 showing him and all four members of the band."
Another successful auction item was the Live Demonstration tape, featuring six Oasis songs that were cut in Liverpool before Alan McGee signed the Brit-pop band. While that demo was expected to generate bids anywhere between £500 and £750, it actually ended up going for £1,750.
