Paul McCartney continues to prove he's still down-with-the-kids by agreeing to a live Twitter Q&A this Thursday. Set to happen at 9:40 a.m. EST (or 14:40 back home in the UK if you prefer military time), the #askmacca event hopes to address McCartney's first proper solo album in six years, New, which is due out October 15th.

Paul McCartney unveiled the complete tracklisting and production credits for his latest solo album today. Due out October 15th, New features four distinct knob twiddlers — Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Giles Martin — that prove the former Beatle is going for a sound that's both progressive (Epworth and Ronson are best known for their work with Adele and Amy Winehouse respectively) and faithful to his old fans (Giles Martin is the son of Beatles producer George Martin).

"When I play people the album they're surprised it's me," McCartney said in a press release. "A lot of the tracks are quite varied and not necessarily in a style you'd recognize as mine.

He added, "The original idea was to go to a couple of producers whose work I loved, to see who I got on with best, but it turned out I got on with all of them! We made something really different with each producer, so I couldn't choose and ended up working with all four. We just had a good time in different ways."

Twelve tracks are expected, including the following Mark Ronson special... more »

The Beatles, headed to the BBC

The Beatles, headed to the BBC

Just when you thought the Beatles archive must be drained completely dry, some rather determined fans have dug up details about an as-yet-unconfirmed compilation of rare BBC recordings from the mid '60s. Which makes perfect sense considering the band's last BBC compilation was released nearly 20 years ago and there's an "in-depth account of the Beatles' BBC appearances" on the way October 10th through BBC Books. According to the Guardian, the Kevin Howlett title will include "conversation transcripts and unreleased photographs, ranging 'from the unprecedented excitement of Beatlemania to the mature reflection of the last interviews before the group's split'."

Here's a short film of BBC footage in the meantime... more »

It probably shouldn't be too much of a surprise given the synth-laced experiments on his McCartney II LP and Paul McCartney's ongoing Fireman project with Killing Joke co-founder Youth, but the former Beatle has paired up with The Bloody Beetroots for a not-quite-EDM track called "Out of Sight." Check it out via Rolling Stone below; let's just hope a Steve Aoki collab isn't next... more »
