New Pearl Jam Album On the Way

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam

By Andrew Parks, eMusic Contributor

Not to make this National Grunge Week or anything, but yesterday's news regarding new Foo Fighters material has been followed with word of sessions for the next Pearl Jam LP. Speaking to Rolling Stone, guitarist Mike McCready said the band hopes to have their tenth album ready by the end of the year.

"What everybody's been saying is [it's] halfway done," he explained. "I think that's true — we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie brings in, so we'll weed through those."

As for what the record actually sounds like, McCready called it "kind of a logical extension of what Backspacer was. But I think there's a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There's a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there's a punk rock edge to other stuff."

Pearl Jam, Binaural

binaural

By Jayson Greene, Managing EditorBinaural is a solid record hobbled by two drawbacks: 1) mortifyingly two-dimensional production that nearly flattens McCready and Gossard's guitars into dueling sine waves, and 2) the soft-fall sensation that Binaural represents the moment where… more »
