Watch Major Lazer Perform “Get Free” With Members of The Roots and Dirty Projectors

So Amber Coffman kinda owned this track

So Amber Coffman kinda owned this track

By Andrew Parks, eMusic Contributor

Whether you love or hate Diplo doesn't really factor into appreciating "Get Free," the Major Lazer single that happens to feature soaring vocal liners from Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors. Unlike Major Lazer's bro-pleasing performances, it's as smooth and sun-baked as the Jamaican getaways the group channels on their second album, Free the Universe, which is out next Tuesday through Secretly Canadian/Mad Decent/Downtown.

Check out a one-night-only performance of "Get Free" on Jimmy Fallon's late-night show below, featuring members of the Roots and Dirty Projectors... more »

Watch: Jessie Ware + The Roots, “Wildest Moments”

Jessie Ware and The Roots

Jessie Ware and The Roots

By Andrew Parks, eMusic Contributor

While it may seem like her universally acclaimed debut album has been out for a while now — it has, overseas at least — Jessie Ware is just starting to make her presence known on these shores. Why, just this week she's playing two key shows in New York (MTV's "Artists to Watch" bill and a sold-out set at Bowery Ballroom) and rebooting Devotion's hype cycle for its official stateside release by unveiling a new EP and appearing on late-night TV for the first time. You can check out the latter below, a high note-hitting rendition of Ware's hit "Wildest Moments" single with The Roots... more »

(Fun. also got lumped in with the Best New Artist lot despite Some Nights being their second album and this being their fourth year together, but hey, who's counting?)

So Maya Rudolph’s a Major Prince Fan…and a Former Member of The Rentals?

A flyer for Maya Rudolph's college band

A flyer for Maya Rudolph's college band

By Andrew Parks, eMusic Contributor

In case you're just not that into Maya Rudolph's supporting role on Up All Night — hey, it's better than the 30 Rock placeholder that is Weekend Update — the actress has been revealing her musical roots lately, beginning with the Prince cover band Princess. As revealed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, it's a collaboration with her old college friend Gretchen Lieberum. The pair apparently had a band back in the day that opened for No Doubt. Which starts to make sense when you consider Rudolph's stint as a keyboardist/backing vocalist in The Rentals.

Confused yet? Well Gawker has video evidence of Princess performing "Darling Nikki" with the Roots, something they also did at Brooklyn Bowl last night, and plan on reprising at The Capitol Theatre this evening. We also embedded Fallon's entire episode below, along with the Rentals videos she appeared in... more »
