Rather than be bitter about missing Depeche Mode and Green Day, I spent most of my Friday at South by Southwest at two very different showcases. First up was the FADER Fort's over-the-top procession of headliners and special guests that included T.I., a mute Pharrell Williams, Future and a completely random yet oddly endearing collaboration between the Afghan Wigs and Usher (!). And on the other side of the spectrum was the decidedly DIY doings of Panache's official showcase, which featured everything from the eardrum-exploding awesomeness of Destruction Unit to the pit-pleasing guitar army anthems of Thee Oh Sees.

Deerhunter, TV on the Radio Tapped to Curate ATP’s 2013 Festivals

Bankruptcy proceedings and liquidation can't seem to keep All Tomorrow's Parties down. As announced in a press release this morning, the roaming festival will resume its usual spring/summer proceedings next year, with Deerhunter and TV on the Radio assuming the curator position.

As more and more artists continue to produce high concept videos outside of the whole MTV/Fuse/VH1 circuit, we seem to be entering a golden era of envelope-pushing music videos, whether that amounts to album-teasing 'short films' or using sexually-charged imagery that's about as far from tired "Girls, Girls, Girls" tropes as an artist can get. Case in point: two of today's new clips, a striking Sharon Van Etten video that unfolds like a surreal Breaking Amish dream sequence, and a table-turning attack on homophobia from Thee Oh Sees...via a strip club.
